After Hungary Foreign Minister met with Libyan Foreign Minister Najela Al-Mangoush Monday, Hungary asked the European Union to provide assistance to the Libyan authorities in order to be able to combat illegal immigration across its borders.
Hungarian Foreign Minister, Peter Szijjarto, said after his meeting on Monday in a video clip posted on his official account on Facebook that the European Union should provide assistance to Libya so that it can protect its borders from illegal immigration, stressing that Libya has become a transit country. The Hungarian head of diplomacy called on the European Union to put in place a serious financial package to strengthen controls along Libya's southern border. Zijjarto confirmed his country's support for the upcoming elections in Libya, describing it as an "opportunity for stability and peace."
The minister also criticized “non-governmental organizations and human rights groups” that are “trying to prevent the Libyan government from combating illegal immigration,” as he put it.
