President Erdogan, Calls on Putin not to squander chances of peace and stability in Libya.
Pulbished on:Istanbul, 18 February, 2021 (Lana) - The Turkish Anatolia News Agency reported that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called on his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, ‘not to squnader the peace and stability chances in Libya’.
The news agency Anatolia; attributing to a statement by the Presidency of the Communication Department of the Turkish Presidency, explained that President Erdogan held, Thursday ‘telephone talks with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin during which they discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations, and a number of regional files’.
The Turkish president stressed that ‘the opportunity for peace and stability in Libya must not be wasted’.
He also indicated that reaching a settlement of the Syrian issue at an early date is in everyone's interest.
On the other hand, the Kremlin said in a statement: ‘Russian President Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation with the President of the Turkish Republic, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, during which they referred to the importance of forming transitional authorities in Libya with the help of the United Nations to ensure a long-term settlement in this country’, according to the Russian Sputnik agency.
On February 6, the Turkish President congratulated both Mohamed Yunus Al-Manafi for winning the presidency of the Libyan Presidential Council, and Abdel Hamid Dabaiba for winning the premiership. Erdogan stressed, during two phone calls with Al-Manafi, and Dabaiba, to continue offering support to maintain the political and geographical unity of Libya and contribute to stability peace and security and welfare of the people.
He also stressed keen interest of Turkey to continue development of cooperation with Libya in the new phase.
