Tunis, 12 November 2020(Lana) The Head of UN Mission in Libya
Stephanie Williams on Wednesday said participants in the Tunis
political talks have agreed to hold presidential and parliamentary
elections in 18 months time, to end the transitional period.
In a press conference at the end of the third day of talks here,
Williams said the participants have made progress in the political
talks, and agreed to a roadmap which outline the steps to be taken to
unify the executive authority, state institutions and ensure return
of displaced to their homes, and restoration of their rights.
The UN Envoy said the roadmap was based on the UN Security
Council Resolution 2510 which adopts the Berlin Conference results
and calls for a new presidency council and a unified government.
Williams dismissed what she described as misleading and confusing
campaigns accompanying the Tunis talks, and the Military talks in
Sirte, which she said were progressing over a ceasefire agreement.
The UN Envoy said the sub-committees assigned to withdrawal of
forces from frontlines in Sirte were scheduled to submit their work
to the Military Committee on Thursday.
She noted that the Tunis talks will discuss on Thursday
authorities to be assigned to the new bodies, stressing that no final
decisions have been made at the political talks.
