President of Presidency Council: Elections Shortest Way to Peace and Stability.
Pulbished on:
Tripoli, 2 November 2020(Lana) President of Presidency Council
Fayez Al Serraj paid tribute to 'all those who confronted and
defeated the aggression on the capital Tripoli', valuing the role of
those who joined the Burkan Al Ghadab operation and those who lost
their lives in defense of the capital.
Al Serraj was speaking on return from a foreign tour which took
him to Turkey and Italy. I still believe that elections are the
shortest way to end the crisis in Libya and to create lasting peace
and stability in the country.
'In submission to calls by many Libyan parties who were of the
idea to introduce a new transitional period, I thought it was
proper, if indispensable to enter in this stage and to fast track it
without delay, Al Serraj said in press statement on his arrival
according to the Presidency Communication Office.
Earlier in October, Al Serraj said he would step down by end on
the month, and to hand over to an executive authority, urging Libyan
antagonists to work towards creating a new executive council.
The ultimatum has passed without anything being done because the
Libyan parties did not meet to accomplish this entitlement, so my
colleagues and I thought that we have to shoulder our
responsibilities to protect the security and sovereignty of the
country and its political decision, based on the provisions of the
Political Agreement and the two ad hoc letters issued by the House of
Representatives and the High Council of State, Al Serraj said.
Al Serraj offered his best wishes to members of the Libyan people
on the birthday of the Prophet Mohamed 'Peace Be Upon Him', saying
the occasion should serve as inspiration especially at these
difficult times in which our country is passing.
