Valletta, 11.06.2020 - Lana - The Maltese government has agreed to
admit over 400 refugees from Libya, after all European countries have
refused to take them.
Earlier, the Coast Guard in Malta rescued 140 immigrants, who were on
a sinking boat, but the authorities refused their disembarkation and
kept them aboard a chartered cruise ship outside its territorial
waters.
The migrants were transported to the cruise ship on Friday afternoon,
to join two other ships that were rented two weeks ago for the same
purpose and carrying 160 immigrants.
The Maltese government insisted that it would not allow any migrants
to disembark on its territory, saying that other European Union
member states had not fulfilled their promises to accept other
migrants after they got on their lands.
