Tripoli, 11.06.2020 - Lana - The head of the African Union
Commission, Moussa Faki, said, Monday, that choosing a military
solution in Libya will only lead to more destruction and suffering
for its people.
Faki called on all warring parties to immediately stop fighting and
enter into permanent ceasefire negotiations within the framework of
the outputs of the Berlin Conference.
The Chairperson of the Commission stressed that the African Union was
ready to help implement an agreed and effective ceasefire, and to
contribute to creating the necessary conditions for the resumption of
dialogue among all Libyan stakeholders.
Faki, added that the continuous violation of the arms embargo by the
conflicting parties and external parties is a clear disregard for the
safety of the Libyan people, which calls on the Security Council to
implement the sanctions as stipulated in the various resolutions
related to the arms embargo.
The Chairperson of the African Union Commission appealed to the
international community to help tackle the deteriorating humanitarian
situation in Libya, especially in the difficult times Libya is going
through in light of the Corona pandemic, and called for help in
returning the African migrants still detained in Libya.
