New York, 4 March 2020(Lana) The UN Secretary General Antonio
Guterres yesterday received an SMS message from Ghasan Salama in
which the latter stated his intention to leave his post as his
Special Envoy to Libya and Head of UNSMIL.
The UN said it was striving, in the meantime, to ensure that the
resignation do not lead to a setback of efforts, to bring about a
settlement to the Libyan crisis, according to remarks by the
Secretary General Spokesman Stephane Dujarric.
Dujarric said 'the UN is committed to working towards a final
soft transition phase, to avoid losing what had been achieved at the
Berlin Conference on Libya, and that parties to the conflict sit on
the negotiating table in Geneva.
