Aboul Gheit: The military escalation in Tripoli complicates efforts for a political settlement.

Cairo, 28.12.2019 - Lana - Secretary-General of the Arab League,
Ahmed Aboul Gheit, stressed the danger of foreign interference in the
Libyan crisis, calling for stopping the military escalation and
returning to the path of political solution.
The Secretary-General expressed his dismay at the dangerous
escalation taking place in the Libyan arena, which would deteriorate
the military and security conditions, especially around the capital
Tripoli, and the complexity of Arab and international efforts aimed
at reaching a political settlement to the crisis.
Aboul Gheit, in a statement issued by the Arab League on Thursday
evening, renewed his call on all Libyan parties to immediately reduce
escalation and engage in the efforts of the UN mission, to end
military operations and reach a ceasefire, and to resume the
political path leading to the unification of Libyan institutions and
pave the political, Legal and constitutional ground to organize
elections.
