President of Chad: African Sahel States Face Terrorism Because of Libyan Crisis Repercussions.
Pulbished on:
Sochi, 27 October 2019(Lana) Chadian President Idris Debi has
said that countries affected by terrorism threats caused by the
crisis in Libya are spending 18 to 32 per cent of their annual
budgets on security effort to combat and prevent terrorist and
criminal operations.
In remarks at the end of the Russian African Summit in Sochi on
Thursday, Debi said terrorism in the Sahel region is closely linked
to the state of anarchy in Libya, following the military intervention
of 2011, which the whole Africa suffers now.
'Peace and security are essential for development in any country
or region, but the Sahel is facing a serious terrorist threat for 10
years because of the Libyan crisis, Debi was quoted by Chadian media
sources as saying.
He stressed the need for regular consultations between Russia and
the African Union to bring an end to the crisis in Libya.
He called on Moscow to respond to African Union demands regarding
Libya.
Chad's worries are shared by Libya's neighbouring states.
President Mahamadou Issoufou said recently in an evaluation of the
Libyan conflict that 'the security threat in the African Sahel has
bloated because of the crisis, indicating that the world has turned
its back to the countries that deal with its repercussions.'
