Pulbished on:
Tripoli, 26.10.2019 - Lana - The United Nations Support Mission in
Libya (UNSMIL) has strongly condemned attacks on any civilian
targets, including health facilities, field hospitals and medical
teams.
In a statement on Friday, the mission confirmed that the United
Nations had documented at least 58 attacks on medical staff and
health facilities during 2019, till the 25th of October.
The mission categorically denied rumors that it had received
coordinates for hospitals and field clinics operating south of
Tripoli and had passed them on to one of the parties of the conflict.
The United Nations reiterates that it has not received any
coordinates for hospitals and field clinics and has not provided them
to any of the parties.
The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) emphasized that
targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure is a violation of
international humanitarian and human rights law and may amount to war
crimes. The principles of discrimination and proportionality must be
fully respected at all times in accordance with international human
rights and humanitarian law.
