GNA Minister of Interior Meets Italian Foreign Minister.

Rome, 24 October 2019(Lana) GNA Minister of Interior met in Rome on Wednesday Italian Interior Minister Luciana Lamorgese. The meeting was attended by Libyan Ambassadors to Italy and the EU, the Head of Anti-migration Authority and senior officials from the Libyan and Italian Interior Ministries. The meeting focused on illegal migration, whereby Italy praised efforts being made by the Libyan Interior Ministry in respect of combating illegal migration acknowledging the difficulties it faces in addressing this problem. Lamorgese said Italy would provide Libya with equipment and technical assistance and that joint work was being conducted at different levels. The EU should contribute to such effort, she said. The situation in Syria could compel some terrorist organisations to seek refuge in Libya, the Italian Minister said indicating that the international community has to address this issue. Cooperation between Italy and Libya needs more attention and concrete steps to be taken, and also security agreements, the Libyan Interior Minister said. The migration issue is a national issue as far as Libya is concerned, indicating that attempts to settle migrants in Libya are totally rejected. =Lana=
