Rome,19.10.2019 - Lana - "Italy and France have a duty to
implement a joint agreement on the Libyan crisis, a move that could
unite non-Libyan actors on the path of institution-building"; the
president of the Italian Association of International Organizations
(SIOI) Franco Frattini said.
At the conference "France and Italy .. the state of instability in
Libya", held in Rome during the 10th edition of the Diplomatic
Festival, "Italy and France must have the ability to move forward
with a Libyan agreement that can bring together both European soft
power and the political power of NATO alliance," Frattini said.
He added, the new plan could address all aspects of the current
crisis not only security-related risks such as human trafficking,
terrorism and drugs, but also the Libyan economy, according to the
Italian agency "Nova".
According to Frattini, a former Italian foreign minister, this could
greatly help in diplomatic work in favor of political reconciliation,
adding: France and Italy have a duty to work together at this stage.
Frattini pointed out that Rome and Paris had some differences on the
means, but the international meeting held a few weeks ago in New York
organized by Italy and France on the Libyan file, had recorded a
strong convergence between the five permanent members of the Security
Council (the United States, Russia, China, the United Kingdom and
France) ).
