President of the Presidential Council meets with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

New York, 28.09, 2019 (Lana) - President of the Presidential Council
of the National Accord Government (NAG), Fayez Al-Sarraj, met at the
Libyan Mission's headquarter to the United Nations in New York, the
UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi, and discussed
cooperation relations between the GNA and UNHCR.
Al-Sarraj, welcomed the High Commissioner, praising UNHCR's efforts
to help refugees around the world, pointing out that Libya is facing
the problem of illegal immigration rather than asylum.
He said that the number of illegal immigrants in shelters in Libya
represents a very small percentage compared to the total number of
migrants scattered throughout Libya, whose fate is controlled by
international networks of smuggling and human trafficking.
The President of the Presidential Council reviewed the Government's
efforts to provide humanitarian assistance to the residents of the
shelters that have been taken measures to close them.
For his part, the High Commissioner praised the efforts of the
Government of National Accord, expressing his understanding of the
difficulties faced by Libya, and stressed the readiness of the
Commission to provide assistance and work together to face the
negative effects of this phenomenon.
