Agricultural Day in Qasr Al Akhyar to Test Panicum Resistance to Salinity.

Tripoli, 24 September 2019(Lana) The Ministry of Agriculture and
Livestock Resources has organized an agricultural day in the area of
Qasr Al Akhyar 70 km east of Tripoli, which it devoted to panicum, to
examine whether it can withstand salinity.
The Ministry of Agriculture adviser on forage crops Adnan
Speitha, the Head of Cooperation and Agricultural Advice,
coordinators of Agricultural sectors in Qasr Al Akhyar and Al Khoms,
as well as the Agricultural Research Centre and Friends of Tree
Association and grazing animals farmers attended the event.
The event cantered on the trial of the tropical fodder plant
which the Ministry planned to introduce in Libya, and whether it can
prove to be a successful fodder plant in the country.
Initial field tests have shown that Panicum, the tropical forage
crop grew as high as 1.8 meter in 2 months, which was considered a
good start.
The event was documented by television camera and would be aired
on national channels, to promote further awareness.
Experts say Panicum is one of the best forage plants that can
remain for up to 10 years.
