MOI Undersecretary Chairs Tripartite Meeting on Migration.

Tripoli, 15 August 2018(Lana) The Interior Ministry
Undersecretary for Migration Affairs has chaired a meeting at the
Foreign Ministry, which was attended by the EU Ambassador to Libya,
representatives of the African Union, UN Humanitarian Affairs Office,
the Director of African Affairs at the Foreign Ministry, the head of
the Foreign Ministry work team on illegal migration and a number of
Ambassadors of African countries.
The meeting was devoted to discussing the illegal migration
phenomenon, and ways of tackling this problems through cooperation of
all countries, and international organisations.
The Foreign Ministry Undersecretary said there would be no
settlement of migrants in Libya, and no more detentions camps to be
opened. He insisted that Libyan rules and regulations concerning
illegal migration apply, and the country's sovereignty must be
respected.
Libya is a transition rather than a source country, the
Undersecretary said, and added 'our religion requires us to treat
migrants kindly regardless of their nationality and religion.'
He invited African Ambassadors to visit the detention centres to
acquaint themselves with the conditions there, and to help repatriate
illegal migrants to their countries.
