Libya Meets Needs of cereals by Imports.
Pulbished on:
Tripoli, 24 April 2018(Lana) Libya has to meet its needs of
cereals for 2018 through imports, said Abdul Monem Shihab Addin the
Head of Steering C committee of the Ministry of Agriculture.
Half of cereals needs could be met locally if security and
electricity supply improved, Shihab Addin said, adding this requires
investing no less than $120 million, of which 10 million will go to
seeds alone.
Shihab Addin said he expected local harvest to improve in the
forthcoming season, and that 50% of cereals consumption, estimated at
1.2 million tons, would be met locally once electricity supply and
security improved.
He noted that last year cereals output reached around 100.000
tons.
