EU Renews Support for GNA, Re-consider Sanctions on Some Libyan Figures.

Tripoli, 7 February 2017(Lana) Foreign Ministers of EU member
states have renewed their support for the Presidency Council of the
Government of National Accord, which they said was a more credible
interlocutor. They called on all parties to act in the spirit of a
positive dialogue, and to join the political process.
According to the Italian Akipress news agency, the Ministers
urged all Libyan parties to avoid any action that might undermine
political transition in Libya.
This position was contained in a statement issued by the EU
Foreign Ministers, following a meeting in Brussels on Libya, with
implied messages for all parties to the conflict in the country.
The statement hinted to reconsidering the sanctions on some
Libyan figures, to help establish peace in the country.
The European diplomatic chiefs said they were prepared to use all
means to back up the Presidency Guard.
According to the statement, the EU Ministers have decided to
expand their assistance for the Libyan authorities on the short run,
with funds amounting to 120 million Euros, to be allocated to
revitalizing civil society organisations and the health, youth,
education and security sectors.
The Union focused on the need to stick to the content of UN
Security Council Resolutions on Libya.
As for migration, a pivotal aspect of EU relations with Libya,
the statement said the EU would continue to work to upgrade the
efficiency of the Libyan coast guard, and the competent Libyan
authorities so they can exercise control on the borders and deal with
the irregular migration.
The EU High Representative of Foreign Affairs and Security Policy
Federica Mogherini said the EU has adopted a regional approach, to
work with the African Union , the Arab League and the United Nations
to push for a restoration of peace and security in Libya.
