Libya spends 20 million annually on illegal immigrants at detention centres.

Tripoli, 27.12.2016(Lana) Director of Studies and Humanitarian
Policies Office at the National Centre for Economic Development, Hani
Al Tarhuni underlined that hosting illegal immigrants at the
detention centres incurs the Libyan state over 20 million dollars
besides other expenses of medicine, treatment, transport and
transportation.
These expenses do not include salaries of security forces
guarding the detention centres, rescue operations at high seas
besides the danger of security members being infected by contagious
disease.
Al Tarhuni pointed out in statement to the Communications and
Media Department at the Council that 550 illegal immigrants are still
in detention centres and are not deported because their embassies did
not communicate with the relevant authorities.
Director of Studies and Humanitarian Policies Office at the
National Centre for Economic Development organized Monday in Tripoli,
a workshop on " The National Programme for the Health Protection of
Staff of Security Agencies fighting Illegal Immigration in Libya', in
the presence of State Minister for Migration Affairs, Yusef Abubaker,
and State Minister for Communal Development, Commander of Coast Guard
and representative of Ministry of Health.
