Rome, 3 August 2016(Lana) Italian Foreign Minister Paolo Gentelone
on Tuesday said his country was considering a request by the US which
is leading an international coalition against the State Organisation
Da'esh to use the base of Sigonella in Sicily to launch air strikes
against the organisation positions in Sirte.
In a statement to the Italian news agency Gentelone said what
Italians needed to know was that the air strikes that the US carried
out yesterday were against Da'esh in Sirte. The GNA government has
achieved a number of goals and paid dearly for that, he added.
The Italian agency said Italy was among the first countries who
welcomed the US raids on Da'esh in Sirte.
The Head GNA Council Fayez Al Saraj announced in a televised
statement the start of US assault on positions kept by the Da'esh
organisation in and around the city of Sirte at the request of the
Consensus Government in Libya.
