Pulbished on:Tripoli, 12 September 2024 (Lana) The U.S. Embassy in Libya called on all key Libyan stakeholders to engage constructively with UNSMIL to de-escalate current tensions.
The embassy stressed on the first anniversary of the tragedy in Derna and other flood-affected communities the need to reenergize the political process to reach a lasting settlement to ensure the stability and prosperity of Libya.
“The anniversary of the tragedy in Derna and other flood-affected communities reminds us of the inspiring unity that the Libyan people displayed in their immediate response to the crisis,” the embassy said in a tweet.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and reaffirm our commitment to standing with the people of Libya in times of need,” it added.
“Over the past year, the United States contributed more than $15.7 million to help the Libyan communities affected by the floods gain access to needed food, water, healthcare, protection, shelter, mental health, and psychosocial assistance, and we continue to contribute to reconstruction and development efforts,” it stated.
