A gang was arrested in Benghazi recruited children to carry out robberies.

Benghazi, April 20, 2024  (LANA) - The security services in the city of Benghazi seized a gang that recruited children and used them to carry out theft operations in the city.

The Security Media Office of the Ministry of the Interior of the government appointed by the House of Representatives, explained that, the Investigations Department of the General Administration of Security Operations tracked the thefts that had recently occurred in several neighborhoods in the city and was able to identify those involved in these crimes by reviewing surveillance camera recordings that showed children stealing cars from several different areas of the city.

The Security Media Office indicated, according to the Libyan newspaper Al-Anbaa, that the process of arresting the gang formation began after investigation personnel were able to arrest two sibling children who had stolen a car in the city center. During the investigations, they confessed to their membership in a gang that recruited children into robberies, after implicating them in drug and psychotropic substance abuse, filming them in offensive video clips, and blackmailing them.

The Security Media Office confirmed that investigation personnel were able to arrest the entire gang, including a woman, after collecting all information and completing investigations related to the group of thefts that occurred recently in several neighborhoods in the city.
