Tripoli, 28 February (Lana): The U.S. Embassy in Libya announced that in a phone call yesterday, Chargé d’Affaires Berndt exchanged views with Engineer Belkacem Haftar on the ongoing response to meet the needs of the people of Derna and other communities affected by the catastrophic Storm Daniel floods in September 2023.

Berndt discussed the more than $15 million in humanitarian assistance that the United States has provided to help flood victims and the desire of the United States to continue to assist the people of Derna and other affected communities during the reconstruction phase. 

The embassy added that Berndt noted that the United States encourages a unified and coordinated national approach to flood reconstruction with technical support from international institutions and transparency measures to ensure effective use of reconstruction funds.
