Tripoli, February 27, 2024 (LANA) - The Embassy of Japan in Libya announced yesterday, Monday, the allocation of an additional 1.6 million dollars to help those affected in the areas of eastern Libya that were struck by Hurricane Daniel on September 10, 2023, through UNICEF Libya.

This came during a meeting between the Japanese Ambassador, "Shimura Izuru," with the representative of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in Libya, "Michel Servadi."

The embassy explained that the aid included providing food supplies, critical health requirements (water, sanitation, and sterilization), childhood protection, emergency needs, and child protection services in the affected areas.

He added that with this new commitment, Japan's total contribution to the flood-affected areas in eastern Libya, provided through UNICEF, has reached 2.6 million US dollars. This is thanks to the long-standing partnership with UNICEF.

He stressed that Japan will continue to stand with the Libyan people for recovery and reconstruction in the eastern regions of Libya.
