Al-Aqouri meets the Italian ambassador to Libya in Benghazi.

Benghazi, February 26, 2024 (LANA) - The Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives, “Youssef Al-Aqouri,” met with the Italian Ambassador to Libya, “Gianluca Alberini,” along with the Italian Consul in the city of Benghazi, “Francesco De Luigi.”

    The House of Representatives spokesman said on Monday: “The meeting, which was held at the Council’s headquarters in the city of Benghazi, discussed a number of topics of common interest, most notably the migration crisis, and investment in the field of energy and fishing.”

During the meeting, Al-Aqouri also listened to the Italian ambassador’s point of view on a number of files, including the signing of a memorandum of understanding to find a solution for the Libyan youth imprisoned in Italy. The Italian ambassador also reviewed the most prominent joint cooperation programs, according to Belhaq.

For his part, the Chairman of the Council’s Foreign Affairs Committee expressed his thanks for the assistance provided by Italy to the areas affected by Hurricane Daniel, stressing the need to enhance coordination between the two sides to respond to the challenges facing the region and natural disasters, expressing Libya’s aspiration to benefit from Italian expertise in the field of agriculture and restoration of antiquities and to continue cooperation at the municipal and university levels.

For his part, Ambassador Alberini stressed Italy's keenness to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries in all fields, and for his country to be a friend to all Libyans, explaining that an Italian civil aviation committee visited Benina International Airport during the last period to evaluate the airport's conditions for the opening of flights from Benghazi to Rome. Three Italian teams working in the field of archaeology will visit the city of Shahat, indicating Italy's interest in the field of agriculture in the southern regions, and this cooperation will soon move to the rest of the regions.
