The Supreme Committee for Following Up on Illegal Immigration and Borders is considering developing a unified database on the numbers of immigrants and the countries they come from.
Pulbished on:Tripoli, February 19, 2024 (LANA) - The Supreme Committee - formed by a decision of the Prime Minister of the National Unity Government to follow up on the file of illegal immigration and borders - discussed the development of a unified database on the numbers of immigrants and the countries they come from and all information related to the movement of illegal immigration, with its ways and means.
During the meeting held today, Monday, chaired by the Minister of Interior and attended by its members (Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Social Affairs, Labor and a number of heads of relevant agencies), the committee discussed the issue of illegal immigration and the development of a national strategy to address the immigration issue.
The Minister of Justice stressed that the solution is in the strategy that supports and preserves national sovereignty over the entire Libyan territory, and that this strategy must be accompanied by laws that emphasize the lack of leniency in the criminal aspect related to criminalizing illegal immigration and entering the country without proper legal procedures.
