Al-Manfi discusses with the European Union ambassadors the Batili initiative.

Tripoli, December 10, 2023 (LANA) - The President of the Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Manfi, discussed today, Sunday, at the Council’s headquarters, the European Union ambassadors accredited to Libya, the developments in the political situation taking place in Libya.

The media office of the President of the Presidential Council reported that the meeting discussed the initiative presented by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, which comes within international efforts to hold parliamentary and presidential elections simultaneously as soon as possible to end all transitional stages and achieve stability throughout the country.

The meeting also touched on the issue of rebuilding the areas affected by the torrents and floods that struck the city of Derna and the Jabal Alahkdar areas last September, and the need for reconstruction to be under Libyan ownership and leadership through the residents of the affected areas, with partnership and benefiting from international organizations’ technical expertise in the fields of reconstruction, according to the media office. 

The meeting discussed the issue of illegal immigration and economic cooperation in all fields between Libya, the African Union and the European Union countries.

During the meeting, Al-Manfi affirmed the presidential readiness to play a consensual role that would enable progress in the political process and sponsor any efforts of the UN mission that would gain consensus and lead to elections.

He also expressed his thanks to all the ambassadors working in Libya, and their support and their countries for the Presidential Council and its national steps to achieve peace and stability throughout Libya, stressing the necessity of concerted all European Union efforts to stop the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip.
