Takala from Moscow: Presidential elections may be held soon and great efforts are being made to reach an agreement

Moscow, November 27, 2023 (LANA) - Head of the High Council of State, Mohamed Takala, said that presidential elections may be held in Libya soon, stressing that great efforts are currently being made to reach an agreement on the elections.

Takala, who is currently visiting Russia, added in statements reported by the Russian News Agency (TASS) that his country is very close to holding general elections, stressing that his visit to Russia comes as part of efforts to discuss ways to settle the situation in the country, and to consult with international parties to reach general elections in as soon as possible.

During the past few days, the UN envoy to Libya, Abdullah Batili, called on the main parties in the country to an expanded meeting in Morocco to discuss the obstacles hindering the holding of elections in the country, an invitation that was rejected by the House of Representatives and the government that emerged from it, and called for the necessity of forming a unified government to run the country in the next stage.
