Al-Koni: We support Batili's efforts to reach elections, and we affirm national sovereignty in any solution to the current political crisis.

New York, March 27, 2023 (LANA) - The deputy in the Presidential Council, "Musa Al-Koni," stressed the right of the Libyans that any solution to the current political crisis and access to elections should be based on national sovereignty.

This came during his meeting in New York with the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations for Political Affairs and Peacebuilding, "Rosemary DiCarlo", which focused on discussing the latest developments in the political situation and the role of the United Nations and its mission in Libya.

In this meeting, which was held on the sidelines of the United Nations Summit on the Good Management of Water Resources in New York, Al-Koni renewed the Presidential Council's support for the efforts of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General, Abdullah Batili, to accomplish the electoral process before the end of 2023 in light of a consensus based on national sovereignty. He stressed the need to prepare for the holding of elections within the specified deadline, and to benefit in this regard from the support of United Nations experts to achieve this goal

For her part, the Under-Secretary-General praised the Presidency Council's support for the efforts of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General, and the qualitative level of partnership between the United Nations and the Presidency Council to reach the elections.

The UN official reaffirmed that the United Nations will not delay in supporting the electoral process in Libya with various expertise that the stage may require.

  In particular, DiCarlo praised the pivotal role of the Presidential Council in the file of national reconciliation and bringing together the parties.
