Foiling attempt to smuggle a huge amount of Captagon and hashish destined for Libya.
Pulbished on:Rome, February 22, 2023 (LANA) - The Italian authorities thwarted an attempt to smuggle 14 tons of Captagon and 3 tons of “hashish” destined for Libya and Saudi Arabia, with an estimated value of $1.2 billion.
According to the Guardia di Finanza newspaper, the Italian Public Prosecutor’s Office ordered the arrest of Taher al-Kayyali, Syrian citizen, accusing him of being behind the operation, which was seized in 2020 in the port of Salerno.
The judge of the Salerno Court, Francesco Guerra, charged the Syrian, Taher Al-Kayyali, with international drug trafficking.
The newspaper said that the Italian police believe that the accused is no longer on Italian soil, and that the search for him is still continuing in partnership with the authorities of other countries.
