New York, 30 September 2022 (Lana) The United Nations Security Council on Friday adopted a resolution extending the authorization of UN member states and regional organizations to inspect ships on the high seas off the Libyan coast for a year.

The resolution, drafted by France, received the approval of 14 of the council's total members (15 countries), while Russia abstained.

The Security Council first adopted Resolution 2292 on June 14, 2016 for intercepting ships bound for or coming from Libya.
