In a joint statement: America and four Western countries agree to form a unified executive body with a mandate focused on preparing for elections in Libya.

New York, September 24, 2022 (LANA) - The United States and four European countries announced their support for the new Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Libya, "Abdullah Bateli" in his mission to promote political stability and reconciliation among Libyans.

The countries (France - Germany - Italy - the United Kingdom - the United States) affirmed in a joint statement issued yesterday, Friday, their support for the United Nations mediation aimed at laying a constitutional basis, to enable free, fair and inclusive presidential and parliamentary elections in all parts of Libya in the shortest possible time.

According to the statement, which came after a meeting of senior officials from the five countries on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, they discussed the importance of achieving Libyan aspirations for the transparent management of oil revenues and agreeing on a unified executive body with a mandate focused on preparing for elections.

 In their statement, the five countries participating in the meeting rejected any use of violence, reiterating their support for the full implementation of the ceasefire agreement signed in Geneva on October 23, 2020.
