Tripoli, January 15, 2022 (Lana) - The US ambassador and special envoy to Libya, Richard Norland, reiterated the United States' support for the elections’ path within the original timeframe of the road map of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum, which was approved by the United Nations Security Council.

The American confirmation came during phone talks between the Representative of the Presidential Council, "Musa al-Koni" with Ambassador "Norland", as the latter revealed in a tweet published by the American embassy on its Twitter account.

According to Norland's tweet, his discussions with "Al-Koni" also dealt with the situation in southern Libya, where the weak security and economic situation is another reason for the necessity of holding elections as soon as possible so that a unified national government can work for the benefit of all Libyan citizens.

Yesterday, the US envoy had another phone call with the presidential representative, "Abdullah Al-Lafi", to discuss the next steps for the electoral process, which depends on the Libyan leaders.

Ambassador Norland said in a tweet published by the US embassy that he assured al-Lafi that the United States strongly supports following a path that can lead to free, fair and inclusive elections within the original timeframe stipulated in the road map of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum.
