UN Expresses Hope New Constitution Could be Turning Point in Libya's Endeavour for Development and Democracy.

Muscat, 7 April 2016(Lana) The UN has expressed hope that
agreement by the Constituent Assembly on the draft constitution,
would be a turning point towards establishing democracy, development
and human rights in Libya.
In statements he made on behalf of the head of the mission
Martin Kobler during a press conference here, UNSMIL constitutional
Adviser Mohamed Al Ghanam expressed hope that this accord would be a
turning point in Libya's endeavor for development and democracy. He
valued the effort of the Constituent Assembly members to bring about
a draft constitution that cater for the interests of the Libyan
people, and establish peace, stability and prosperity in the country.
On his part the Ambassador of Oman Gassem Al Salehi said he hoped
the draft would usher in a new era in Libya, in which everyone would
be able to achieve their potential, and prosperity and peace thrive
in the country.
The Constituent Assembly ended Wednesday meetings which it
started on March 19 in Salala, Sultanate of Oman, to discuss issues
of disagreement in the draft constitution before it would be put to a
referendum.
The discussions were culminated with an agreement on a draft
constitution, which will be put to a vote by the members of the
Constituent Assembly in the Libyan city of Al Beidha on Sunday.
