Tripoli, 30.10.2015 - (Lana) - The UN special envoy to Libya
'Bernardino Leon' , had ruled-out the end of his mission in Libya and
leaving his post , before the Libyan conflicting rivals reach a final
accord , that puts an end to the political crisis in the country.
The UNSG 'Ban Ki-moon' had told the security council of his
appointment to the German diplomat 'Martin Kobler' , as a new UN
envoy to Libya , succeeding the Spanish 'Bernardino Leon' , and he is
awaiting for the security council's official approval today.
In press statements published today , Leon confirmed that "he had
rejected the extension of his mission , which have ended in the
beginning of last September , because he was certain that the Libyans
have already reached an agreement , but things - as he said - changed
after that".
Leon expressed his hope , in "putting the final touches on the
agreement , and to sign it at the end , then another person would
take charge of the executing stage" , expecting the Libyan parties to
approve the proposal , which he had presented and to form a national
reconciliation government.
He pointed out , that "singing on any agreement will be on the bases
of the proposal , but he did not rule out making any changes in the
text , if it serves the ultimate goal".
