London, 16.10.2015 - (Lana) - The public prosecution in Scotland ,
yesterday Thursday , said that it had identified two Libyans ,
suspected to be involved in the explosion of the 'Pan American' plane
over the Scottish Lockerbie city in 1988 , which resulted in the
killing of 270 people.
The public prosecution , in its statement , said the Scottish and
American officials , had agreed that there is an intact basic in the
law , that would allow the Scottish and American investigators , to
consider two Libyan suspects , in the continued investigation in the
'Pan American 103' explosion over Lockerbie.
The statement added , that these two , are suspects in the attack as
well as 'Abdul-Baset Magrahi' , who was convicted in 2001 for the
plane explosion , and he was the only one convicted in this case.
The Scottish public prosecution , yesterday Thursday , sent an
official request to the Libyan public prosecution in Tripoli ,
indentifying the suspects , and calling on cooperation.
The statement added , that the supreme counsel and the American
attorney general , asked the Libyan judicial authority , to assist
Scottish police officers and the EBI , to interrogate the two named
suspects in Tripoli.
The Scottish government had released 'Magrahi' in 2009 on
humanitarian reasons , after discovering he had cancer , and died in
Libya in 2012.
In 2003 , the Gaddafi regime had took responsibility over the
explosion , and paid 2.7 billion dollars at the time , in
compensations for the victims' families , as part of number of
measures , aimed at getting close with the west.
