A German official at the UN is nominated to head the UNSMIL as a successor to Bernardino Leon.

Geneva, 04.09.2015 - (Lana) - UN officials said that 'Martin Kubler'
, the German official who is currently supervising the UN mission in
the democratic republic of Congo - is the prime nominee to head the
UNSMIL.
If the UN secretary general 'Ban Ki-Moon' decides to appoint Kubler
as the UNSMIL president , he will succeed 'Bernardino Leon' , as
diplomats said its expected for him to step-down from his post soon.
High diplomat in the UN security council , asked to not be named ,
said that Kubler had a good reputation among the council members ,
because he is a man who "likes to work on the ground" , instead of
sitting on a chair in the office.
Another western diplomat said , that Kubler in a strong nominee in
every sense of the word , enjoys a range of pros … strong
personality , powerful features and robust manager.
Diplomats said that , Ban Ki-Moon hasn't decided yet on this regard.
Kubler had a 25 years of diplomatic experience , and worked as a UN
envoy in Iraq , Afghanistan and the democratic of Congo , as well as
his country's ambassador to Egypt and Iraq.
