London, 02.09.2015(Lana) A British Court ruled to return of a
historic artifact stolen from Libya and was smuggled illegally from
the country.
The British Daily Telegraph reported on Wednesday that the
Westminster Criminal Court ruled in favor of the return of an
archaeological statute that has significance in Libya.
The Telegraph said the British judge rejected the false claims of
UAE businessman who claimed ownership and that he acquired it from
Turkey and claiming the price does not exceed 60 thousand pounds.
The Court said the statute was excavated illegally by
unidentified individuals and was smuggled from Libya.
The Court underscored the historic significance of the artifact
and estimated its price at 1.5 million pound, and indicated that all
the necessary measures to protect it were taken.
The statute was discovered in storage west London by customs
officers two years ago and was handed over to the British museum, in
wait of the court's ruling.
