Pulbished on:
Tripoli, 2 September 2015(Lana) In scenery landscape in the bushy
hills west of the coastal city of Khoms new cluster of Roman ruins
highlight the coastal strip stretching from Wadi Yala in the east to
Nagaza Heights in the west.
A report by the Ministry of Tourism detailed the disparity of the
ruins from grave stones to remnants of ancient factories, walled
farms and villas which yet to be unveiled, except for Villa Celin
which is located in Wadi Yala.
The report cited what the classic Archaeologist Philip Kenric,
professor of archaeology at Oxford University described in his book
'Guide to Archaeological Landmarks in Tripolitania', in which he said
9 Roman villas existed in the area between Wadi Yala and Wadi Jabroun
as well as Al Sweiniya and Nagaza Heights, in addition to 8 walled
farms and rural factories.
Villa Celin, according to the book is the most famous of the
Roman ruins in the area, and the most visited by tourists after it
was unveiled in 1974.
Several other sites await to be fully unveiled in the area which
illustrate the life of the Roman settlements in northern Libya.
