Pulbished on:
Tripoli, 23 August 2015)Lana) The Head of the UN Support Mission
in Libya Bernardino Leon has affirmed that the Libyan political
agreement was moving towards the final stage.
'We are moving towards the final stage, the last and the most
difficult miles, Leon told a press conference in Cairo. But he said
he was optimistic an agreement would be in place.
He indicated that the first week of September would be the
deadline for executing the agreement, and participants then would be
prepared in the last two weeks of September to vote on candidates for
the consensus government, which will coincide with the UN General
Assembly Meeting on September 21.
The UN Envoy said the major challenge was the formation of a
national unity government in Libya, and we expect participants to
come up with several names of candidates for the government, and in
the meantime we are engaged in the work to finish off with the
appendixes talks.
There were two parallel talks, the political talks involving
different groups, and we have the key players in the military field
the Libyan Army, and the various militias in the country and all of
them should be part of the solution, Leon said.
