Tripoli, 20.08.2015(Lana) Representatives of the Taurag and Tabu
in the Constitution Drafting Assembly (CDA) have suspended their
membership of the assembly declaring their rejection of whatever is
produced be they drafts or proposals.
In a joint statement Thursday, the representatives of the two
components in the CDA underscored that the decision to suspend their
membership came of what they considered the CDA non-commitment to the
consensual approach regarding the original components of the country
as defined in the Constitutional Declaration by exclusion of Taurg
and Tabu from the working committee.
According to the statement, it considered the majority approach
and denials breach of the Constitutional Declaration and a diversion
from the bases of democratic and mulit-cultural state building.
The statement called on all components and the international
community to oblige the CDA to respect the Constitutional Declaration
which necessities consensus with Taurg, Tabu and Amazigh and CDA
respect its pledges by laying down consensual constitution that
responds to the aspirations of all Libyans.
The CDA should comprise 60 members, however the Amazigh have
boycotted it after refusing to pass articles related to the cultural
and linguistic issues of non-Arab components of Libyan society
through consensus.
