Pulbished on:
Tripoli, 05.08.2015(Lana) Ghat Municipality denied reports
purporting opening of Teen Al-Kowm crossing point at the Libyan -
Algerian borders, saying that access can only be given to some
extreme humanitarian situation.
Member of Ghat Municipality, Ramadan Ali said in statement
Wednesday that there were reports indicating opening of the crossing
point but regrettably until now the point has not been opened due to
lack of technical resources needed to open the crossing point.
He said Ghat municipality corresponded with the Ministry of
Interior related to the security situation and how to beef up
security and enable all security agencies in Ghat especially at the
crossing point with Algeria, pointing out that the Municipal Council
is to make a field visit to inspect the crossing point and take what
is necessary to complete the operationalization of the border
crossing point.
Algerian press sources confirmed that technical preparations are
underway to re-open the crossing point with Libya, closed for one
year and half against the backdrop of security developments in Libya,
and that the opening would be announced within a week or so and close
this chapter completely.
The official crossing points with Algeria are Al-Dabdab, near
Ghadamas, Tarat and Teen Al-Koum near Ghat.
