High Judicial Council: Trial of former regime figure carried out at natural conditions and all legal assurances to defendants and their defense observed.

Tripoli, 04.08.2015(Lana) The HJC underlined the fairness,
neutrality and independence of the Libyan judiciary and that it works
according to these standards far from political and partisan
differences.
In statement Tuesday on sentences against former regime figures,
the HJC explained that the trial of former regime figures carried out
at normal conditions and all legal assurances to defendants and their
defense were observed as some defense lawyers of individuals
sentenced testified..
The statment pointed out that the HJC did not receive ay
compliant whether directly or indircetly regarding the progress of
the trial.
The HJC assured the Libyan people in particular and the
international community in general and all local and international
rights organizations that the Libyan judiciary works with fairness
and indepenece away from any political polarization or party
politics.
The HJC refered to the reactions following the sentences passed
by the Tripoli Court of Appeal in the case against former regime
figures and which covered by some media and some of which tried to
undermine the neutrality and indepence of the Libyan judiciary, and
purporting that the sentences were passed under intimidation and
threats.
The HJC underscored that the trial which continued in 26 hearings
from March 2014 to July 2015 were held public and aired live by some
TV channles.
