Bernardino Leon: signing of Libyan political agreement a step towards peaceful settlement of Libyan crisis.

Tripoli, 01.08.2015(Lana) The United Nations Secretary General
Special Envoy, Bernardino Leon, reiterated that the recent initialing
of the Libyan political agreement is a great step towards the
peaceful settlement of the Libyan crisis.
Bernardino urged, during a meeting with a delegation from Zawia
that included the members of the HoR and Municipality and
revolutionaries representatives and all the parties participating in
the dialogue, he urged them to become full partners in the agreement,
and indicated that coming session of the Libyan political dialogue
represent a opportunity for the parties to clarify any
misunderstanding or any lingering issues through the annexations.
The representatives of Zawia emphasized their full support for
the Libyan p9litical agreement, as it represents a genuine
opportunity to resolve the Libyan crisis and they presented several
proposals to clarify ay misunderstanding.
The UN Special Envoy said the Libyan political agreement contains
clear regulations concerning the activation and restructuring the
security institutions, relying on the principle of transparency,
accountability and the rule of law, and underscored the dire need for
ranked officers, police and revolutionaries to agree on the
implementation of the security agreement.
The UN Envoy welcomed the ceasefire agreement and local
reconciliation signed between several areas and cities in Libya.
Leon expressed appreciation for the role played by the
revolutionaries during the 17 February revolution and opposed
categorizing them as militias, he stressed that the implementation of
the agreement will allow them to join the armed and security forces,
which are professional and would integrate them in the civil life.
