UNESCO sponsors debate about Libyan media and its role in reconciliation in Madrid.

Tripoli, 28.07.2015(Lana) Owners and directors of Libyan media
outlets and organizations are to discuss in Madrid the current status
of the Libyan media and ways to enhance professional level of Libyan
media men and offer positive contribution to end current conflict in
Libya.
The participants from 13 media organizations are to discuss in a
form of a UNESCO sponsored training course, role and responsibility
of the media during crisis times in their efforts towards freedom of
the media and shunning away from hatred discourse.
Among issues to be discussed by TV channels, press and internet
hatred discourse and ways to promote the media at this time.
UNSMIL website quoted Director of UNESCO office in Libya as
asserting that UNESCO programmes aim at supporting Libyan media in
identifying the best ways to practice professional standards in
various media outlets.
Promoting the professional and moral standards should be viewed
as a priority by directors and owners of the media outlets, he added.
General Director of Maghreb and North Africa at Spanish Foreign
Ministry underlined the importance of the media and their role in
the ongoing reconciliation processes.
