Al Ghanoushi: Erection of Wall Between Tunisia and Libya Jeopardizes Livelihood of Ordinary People.
Pulbished on:
Tunis, 23 July 2015(Lana) The border wall between Tunisia and
Libya being erected by the government of Tunisia will have very
negative impact on the Tunisian side, said Rashid Al Ghanoush, Head
of Al Nahdha Movement.
This wall will undermine the daily livelihood of the Tunisian
citizens, and the Governemnt should take this into account, Al
Ghanoushi said in press statements.
The erection of the earth wall was announced by the Head of the
Tunisian Governemnt Al Habib Al Seid, who said the step was approved
on March 18, and designed to prevent cross-border infiltration of
terrorists.
The wall which will stretch for 460km along Tunisia's border with
Libya, between Ras Jdeir and Dheiba-Wazen crossings, will be
completed by December 2015.
The wall was lambasted by the population of Bingerdan, a town
close to the border with Libya, whose population largely depend on
trading with Libya, and who said they were not consulted prior to the
decision to build the wall. Tunisian professional organisations also
denounced the project saying the decision was unilaterally taken, in
contrast with democratic partnership norms.
