Rome, 23 July 2105(Lana) In a statement following a meeting with
Italian Foreign Minister Paolo Gentelone on Tuesday, the Head of the
UN Support Mission in Libya Bernardino Leon said at last he was able
to see light at the end of the tunnel in Libya.
The two officials expressed hope that a broader agreement would
be concluded, to include all Libyan parties in the near future, after
the agreement to form a national unity government.
Speaking at a joint press conference Leon said 'for the first
time we are able to see light at the end of the tunnel. He warned
that there still were important steps to be taken including formation
of a national unity government and ensuring peace and security and
formulation of the peace agreement.
According to the Envoy a strong military mission on the ground
could be replaced by a mission to train Libyan forces, after
formation of the national unity government.
The Italian Foreign Minister said ensuring stability in Libya did
not mean dispatching thousands of troops.
'But it still means that hard and complicated work has to be
done, to train and monitor, and that's what our army is coordinating
with our allies', he said, indicating that most would depended on
Libyan demands.
The Italian Minister said ' we will do what in our capacity, to
call for a wider participation by forces that have yet to sign the
agreement, and we will start with the congress in Tripoli.
