Pulbished on:
Tripoli, 09.07.2015 (Lana) President of GNC, Nuri Abusahmain
stated that any shift to a new phase must based on respect of
Constitutional Declaration and Constitutional Court.
In a speech at the military parade marking the 4th
liberation anniversary Wednesday, at Martyrs Square in Tripoli,
Abusahmain said the GNC welcomes a body such as House of
Representatives or any other body however, through consensual
solutions. He stressed that the homeland can accommodate all and no
one may claim monopoly of power, the capital or any Libyan city.
This event Abusahmain said, is a theme for peace and not for war
or fighting, and to proclaim justice, principles as bases for what
the martyrs sacrificed their lives.
The fighting raged on these days of last year was not to uphold
the GNC as some media alleged, or to install a House of
Representatives or a particular government.
Abusahmain pointed out that the coup started earlier in February,
2014 when coup plotters emerged and declared the freezing of the
Constitutional Declaration and arrest of GNC president and members
and Head of General Staff of the Libyan armed forces, and considered
the legislative body elected by Libyans a target wherever it meets
and indeed amassed the public to call for no extension of GNC. He
noted that these developments unfolded before the eyes of European
ambassadors to Tripoli, UN mission in Tripoli and indeed the whole
world.
The GNC accepted to speed up the formation of February
Committee, hoping for a peaceful rotation of power, and indeed
elections were held and approved and a hand over procedure were held,
but the coup plotters wanted it to be a discord, war and extension to
the former tyrant regime.
Abusahmain explained that the Constitutional Court passed a
resolution and considered the House of Representatives null and void
and to stop bloodshed of Libyans and curtail divisions and unify
ranks, the GNC responded to proposal of UN mission for a dialogue and
a delegation was formed to represent it without preconditions
provided some invariable highlighted by the High Court and public
rallies are upheld.
Abusahmain wondered in his speech about the lives killed, the
wounded, the orphans and widows and house destroyed over their
occupants and fate of Benghazi, Derna and Kikla, the fate of the
south and regions controlled by former regime through suspicious
truce, reconciliations and agreements. He pointed out that some
former regime figures were empowered in some cities, and the
revolutionaries are the ones who are wanted now and not former regime
figures and criminals who are indicated by the courts.
Abusahmain explained that Libya is neither the source nor the
destination of illegal immigration but a transit country, and not as
some media claim that it is a sanctuary for terrorism especially by
sisterly Tunisia which we respect its presence, government and
people, expressing regrets that some media men, politicians and
officials who use Libya as a scapegoat for the weakness of
performance of their security and military institutions such as the
attack in Sousse or Bardo museum, as if terrorism, terrorist
movements exist only in Libya.
Abusahmain wondered did what happen in the France, the USA,
Canada and other European countries and what is happening in Iraq,
Yemen, Syria its source is Libya. Does those who were caught in
bombings in Libya and came from Tunisia and other countries
originated from Libya.
Abusahmain said GNC offered assistance many times and that NSG
officials went to Tunisia several times in several occasions in this
respect without any response or cooperation from the Tunisian side.
He stressed that Libyans would not forget the stance of Tunisia both
people and government with the Libyan people during the revolution,
expressing hope that such historic relation expand between the two
countries and that cooperation be based on objective and
methodological basis.
GNC president praised at the end of his speech the armed forces which
he said are anxious to show up on this day to send a message
domestically and externally that we are peace advocates but that
does not mean surrendering or show consternation before our enemies.
He reassured the people of Tripoli and all Libyans that the GNC and
its forces are capable of protection a united Libya.
