Tripoli, 23 June 2015(Lana) The Interior Ministry of the National
Salvation Governemnt has voiced deep concern over what it called the
grave situation, resulting from the military operation which the EU
launched in the Mediterranean on Monday, to combat illegal migration.
A statement by the Ministry said no coordination has been
conducted with Libya regarding this operation, to clarify its
mechanisms, and that Libya bore no responsibility for the killing of
any migrants on the Sea or in the detention centres.
The statement called on the EU to deport the migrants to their
countries of origin from the point where they were captured..given
that Libya was not party to re-admission conventions, and will not be
liable for any costs incurred as a result of this operation.
The statement stressed the need to address this phenomenon, which
Libya is a victim of, and suffers from its consequences such as
diseases, terrorism and organized crime.
It pointed to the UN Secretary General statements at a meeting
with EU foreign ministers, in which he called for respect of Libyan
state sovereignty.
