Italian Chief of Defence Staff: Italy Will not Relinquish Responsibility towards Libya, Can Assist Libyans.
Pulbished on:
Rome, 22 June 2105(Lana) The Chairman of the Italian Defence
Staff Claudio Grisiano said his country would not relinquish its
responsibility towards Libya, and can assist Libyans, given its
proximity and cultural and historical role.
In an interview with the 'Corierri Della Sera' Grisiano said the
illegal migration phenomenon has become a universal problem, and
Libya constituted a transit point for migrants from west and central
African countries and from Syria.
Any decision to impose a siege on the Libyan coast without
approval of the Libyan authorities, would be a declaration of war and
would have adverse effect, he said.
Grisiano called on Libyan parties to expeditiously form a
national unity government to ensure stability in the country.
