Ministry of Tourism Report: Most Sea Resorts Lack Standard Requirements.
Pulbished on:
Tripoli, 18 June 2015(Lana) A team assigned by the Ministry of
Tourism to assess summer resorts along the western coast of Libya has
established that most resorts lacked the standard leisure
requirements, security and safety.
The team has visited a number of resorts along the coast
stretching from Zwara in the west to Misrata in the east.
Most of the resorts lacked the conditions required for a standard
peaceful and comfortable day out which visitors wanted from them.
It noted that in addition to pile up of garbage and the visual
pollution, the resorts lacked the basic safety conditions including
rescue boats and monitor towers.
High fees were being asked by operators, which visitors said were
too high for the services rendered, for example a small tent or a
leaf roofed cottage costs between 15 -20 dinars a day, which is high
compared to visitors earnings, the assessment team found.
The team also established that some of the resorts have been
built, not in conformity with standards, had no toilets and were not
designed as Sea resorts in terms of architecture which undermined the
splendor of the Sea front, and water and power supply to the resorts
were connected haphazardly and lacked safety conditions.
The team recommended that resort operators should be compelled to
comply with safety standards set by the Ministry of Tourism to make
the places as much safe and enjoyable as possible.
